19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been earned on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev secured his initial championship for 882 days with a win over opponent Moutet in the competition title decider.

The Russian, a former world number one, has endured a torrid period, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his service game in especial - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately separating with long-term trainer Cervara.

Presently working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently improved in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought competitive victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

It is his initial championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard court from spring of the previous year.

Victory also means Medvedev has won 21 titles at 21 different competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a event with my both daughters together, so to get a trophy is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his last six title deciders, including in that event earlier this year.

The player's defensive approach and recurring reactions on court had prompted commentators to wonder if his capacity to perform at the top level was over.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and play positively, supported by an better serve.

He fought back from a break down in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, winning four of the last five games to take the lead.

The competitors traded service breaks in the second set before Moutet, striving for his first professional championship, took control to create a final set.

He saved four early chances in a tight third set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Appropriately, he clinched victory with a shot at the net area, with his opponent failing to control a return after over two and a half hours.
